The [U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas](https://giftcard.news/organization/u-s-attorney-s-office-for-the-southern-district-of-texas/) announced the sentences on September 11\. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) Both women must also serve a year of supervised release and pay restitution. It does not measure the value of the resale operation or imply that a restitution amount has been paid. Cunningham pleaded guilty in September 2025 and Furlough in February 2026\. The newly reported development is sentencing, rather than the original discovery of the scheme. Prosecutors say the women and a third participant travelled to JCPenney stores during 2022 and 2023, used false identification and customer information to access store-branded credit accounts, and bought merchandise and gift cards. Those purchases were then resold on social media. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) The release does not divide losses between merchandise and gift cards, name the gift-card products or explain where the stolen customer information originated. It therefore does not establish a breach of JCPenney's systems or support a gift-card-specific loss estimate. The court noted that Furlough's relative, Ashley Urune, recruited the two women. Urune has separately pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft and is scheduled for sentencing on December 3. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.
