# Jamestown replaces paper Chamber Bucks with local gift card

Jamestown is replacing paper Chamber Bucks with a Pathward-issued gift card for participating local businesses, bringing card payments and shared balances to the programme.

Jamestown's local gift programme is moving from paper checks to a bank-issued card that recipients can spend across participating businesses in the North Dakota city. The [Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce](https://giftcard.news/organization/jamestown-area-chamber-of-commerce/) announced the replacement of Chamber Bucks with the Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card in a June 11 release distributed by News Dakota. [\[S01\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-1)

The change keeps the programme's local-business purpose while altering how value reaches the checkout. A recipient can use the card at several participating merchants, with spending reflected in the remaining balance, rather than carrying the previous paper Chamber Bucks. The launch announcement names restaurants, retailers, attractions, hotels and service businesses as part of the intended range. ## Purchase value and local card acceptance

The online programme shop highlights $25, $50, $75 and $100 quick choices and provides a longer selector spanning $10–$500\. That makes the practical purchase options visible alongside the Chamber’s broader description of cards in any amount. The website selection should not be treated as evidence of which amounts customers actually buy. The card is issued by [Pathward, N.A.](https://giftcard.news/company/pathward-n-a/). The launch terms state that its funds do not expire, the card cannot be reloaded and it provides no cash access. Those conditions make it a spending balance for the participating merchant network, not a reusable account for receiving successive payments. [\[S02\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-2)

The Chamber's programme information says participating businesses process the cards like [Visa](https://giftcard.news/company/visa/) transactions and can accept them for a full or partial purchase. It also distinguishes card expiry from the underlying value: expired cards can be brought to the Chamber for reissuance. That distinction matters because a date printed on a payment card does not, under the announced programme terms, mean its funds have expired. [\[S03\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-3)

For merchants, the practical change is a move toward familiar card acceptance. [Tricia Seckerson](https://giftcard.news/person/tricia-seckerson/), who operates several participating food and car-wash businesses in Jamestown, said the old check system sometimes confused staff and customers. Her expectation of a simpler checkout is a participant's assessment; the announcement supplies no transaction-time measurements. [\[S02\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-2)

The network is defined by participating businesses in Jamestown rather than by whether a merchant is independently owned. [Walmart](https://giftcard.news/company/walmart/)'s local store is among the announced participants, alongside independent operators. Acceptance at that location should not be read as acceptance at every Walmart store or across an unrestricted national card network. [\[S02\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-2)

The Chamber makes the cards available through its office and online. That gives individual buyers and local employers two purchase channels for the same geographically focused programme. Executive director [Emily Bivens](https://giftcard.news/person/emily-bivens/) identified employee rewards as an intended use, building on the role already played by paper Chamber Bucks. [\[S02\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-2)

For employers, the proposition is a reward that offers several local spending choices while keeping redemption within the participating network. For merchants, it brings those recipients into a shared programme without requiring them to spend the entire gift at one business. These are consequences of the announced design, not evidence that the conversion has already increased sales.

The launch statement does not disclose the value of outstanding Chamber Bucks, conversion costs, merchant transaction charges or a sales target. It establishes a change in format and acceptance mechanics; the Chamber's claims about encouraging local spending remain objectives whose results will depend on purchasing and redemption. [\[S02\]](https://giftcard.news/gift-cards/jamestown-chamber-bucks-local-gift-card/#article-source-2)

Purchase conditions also depend on the route used. The Chamber page says sales are final, while the operator’s online sales terms describe a cancellation period and returns process. These published conditions should not be combined into a universal refund promise. Neither affects the stated distinction between an expired card and underlying funds that do not expire.
