Photo: Monizze [Monizze](https://giftcard.news/company/monizze/) announced mobile payment for Belgian gift vouchers on 7 July, adding smartphone checkout to its existing meal, eco and gift-voucher system. Monizze Pay operates inside the issuer’s own app and merchant network. The development extends how holders spend their benefits while preserving the separate voucher types. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) The launch announcement reproduced by [Belgiumcloud](https://giftcard.news/company/belgiumcloud/) described immediate network compatibility. Independent technology publisher [ITdaily](https://giftcard.news/company/itdaily/) reported a phased rollout to users over several months, with notifications when the feature became available. Monizze’s August blog subsequently confirmed that the feature had launched. Network compatibility should therefore be distinguished from every holder receiving access on the announcement day. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) [\[S02\]](#article-source-2) [\[S06\]](#article-source-6) ## Existing voucher acceptance and merchant prices Monizze’s current merchant instructions say affiliated shops can use their existing NFC terminals without signing a new contract. Staff select the relevant voucher type and the customer opens the Monizze app. The issuer says mobile transactions carry the same pricing conditions as the merchant’s current card contract, without an additional mobile fee. [\[S03\]](#article-source-3) The data behind the story ### Monizze’s advertised in-store merchant commissions Current Belgian merchant offer retrieved on 19 October 2026, shown as context for the mobile payment model. Advertised transaction commission % of transaction value Tap or hover for details. All values are also available in the data table. Source Monizze physical-store merchant pricing and FAQ Current advertised rates, not verified July launch tariffs or every negotiated merchant contract. These are not realised fees, sales, adoption or savings. Sport & Culture has variable pricing and is omitted, not counted as zero. Show data tableHide data table Scroll left or right to see all columns __Monizze’s advertised in-store merchant commissions (% of transaction value)__ | Category | Advertised transaction commission | | ------------- | --------------------------------- | | Meal vouchers | 1.50 % of transaction value | | Eco vouchers | 2.75 % of transaction value | | Gift vouchers | 2.75 % of transaction value | Its public in-store offer currently lists a 2.75% transaction commission for gift vouchers, the same advertised rate as eco vouchers; meal vouchers are listed at 1.50%. These October observations describe the published offer, not proof of the rates applying at the July launch or to every existing merchant agreement. [\[S04\]](#article-source-4) That distinction matters commercially. A promise to keep a merchant’s existing contract prices is different from making acceptance free. The mobile feature changes the presentation of the voucher at checkout; the publicly advertised commission remains part of the underlying acceptance economics. Neither source supplies measured savings or the effective fees paid across the merchant base. [\[S03\]](#article-source-3) [\[S04\]](#article-source-4) Chief executive [Jean-Louis Van Houwe](https://giftcard.news/person/jean-louis-van-houwe/) attributed the development to users’ expectations of smartphone payments and the company’s wish to avoid added complexity for merchants. Those are the issuer’s stated reasons. No independent gift-voucher transaction volume, mobile adoption rate or merchant cost study was available in the reviewed material. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) The current employee guide specifies use through the Monizze app rather than adding the card to [Apple Pay](https://giftcard.news/company/apple/) or [Google Pay](https://giftcard.news/company/google/). It also confirms that the physical card remains valid and that a blocked card prevents mobile payment. The feature is an additional access method to existing benefits, with the original voucher selection and acceptance conditions still relevant. [\[S05\]](#article-source-5) For gift-voucher operators, the launch illustrates a way to add smartphone use within an established acceptance network. It does not establish unrestricted bank-card acceptance or a new set of gift-voucher merchants. The verified change is the payment interface and its stated continuity with existing merchant arrangements; actual commercial uptake remains undisclosed. ## In this article ### Companies * [Apple](https://giftcard.news/company/apple/) * [Belgiumcloud](https://giftcard.news/company/belgiumcloud/) * [Google](https://giftcard.news/company/google/) * [ITdaily](https://giftcard.news/company/itdaily/) * [Monizze](https://giftcard.news/company/monizze/) ### People * [Jean-Louis Van Houwe](https://giftcard.news/person/jean-louis-van-houwe/) ### Sources and documents * [\[S01\] July7 company launch announcement reproduced in full](https://belgiumcloud.com/2026/07/07/monizze-lanceert-monizze-pay-de-mobiele-betaaloplossing-die-het-volledige-belgische-ecosysteem-ondersteunt-en-beschermt/?utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news) — Monizze / Belgiumcloud * [\[S02\] July7 authored reporting and phased user rollout](https://itdaily.be/blogs/innovatie/monizze-pay/?utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news) — ITdaily * [\[S03\] Current product-specific merchant instructions](https://www.monizze.be/en/benefits/monizze-pay/merchant/?utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news) — Monizze * [\[S04\] Current published in-store commissions and FAQ](https://www.monizze.be/en/for/merchant/physical-store/?utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news) — Monizze * [\[S05\] Current employee activation and physical-card conditions](https://www.monizze.be/en/benefits/monizze-pay/employee/?utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news) — Monizze * [\[S06\] Subsequent August company confirmation within promotional campaign](https://www.monizze.be/en/resources/blog/monizze-pay-card-new-life/?utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news) — Monizze Share [ ](https://x.com/intent/post?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgiftcard.news%2Fgift-cards%2Fmonizze-pay-belgium-mobile-gift-vouchers-july-2026%2F%3Futm%5Fsource%3Dx%26utm%5Fmedium%3Dsocial&text=Monizze+brings+Belgian+gift+vouchers+into+its+own+mobile+payment+app&utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news "X") [ ](https://www.linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgiftcard.news%2Fgift-cards%2Fmonizze-pay-belgium-mobile-gift-vouchers-july-2026%2F%3Futm%5Fsource%3Dlinkedin%26utm%5Fmedium%3Dsocial&utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news "LinkedIn") [ ](https://wa.me/?text=Monizze+brings+Belgian+gift+vouchers+into+its+own+mobile+payment+app+https%3A%2F%2Fgiftcard.news%2Fgift-cards%2Fmonizze-pay-belgium-mobile-gift-vouchers-july-2026%2F%3Futm%5Fsource%3Dwhatsapp%26utm%5Fmedium%3Dsocial&utm%5Fsource=giftcard.news&utm%5Fcampaign=giftcard.news "WhatsApp") ![Portrait of Emma Carter](https://giftcard.news/images/variants/v1/emma-carter-editorial-portrait-w320.webp) About the author ## [Emma Carter](https://giftcard.news/author/emma-carter/) Journalist — Retail & E-commerce Emma Carter covers retail, e-commerce and the gift card shopping experience for Gift Card News.
