The company described the move as an extension of its local coverage for business payments, rebates and rewards. The announcement said Runa FX supported conversion to and from Mexican pesos around the clock. Runa also reported that its wider international network had grown to more than 2,700 payout options at that point. That total referred to its global offering, rather than the number of options in Mexico alone. Runa connected its Mexican strategy to access gaps in financial services. Citing 2022 figures, it said fewer than half of Mexican adults had a bank account. The company argued that digital payout options could serve recipients outside traditional banking, while noting the need for better digital infrastructure in rural areas. Remittances were another part of the market context. The announcement cited $30.2 billion received by Mexico in the first half of 2023 and described demand for alternatives to costly or cumbersome transfer methods. The figure concerned that six-month period, rather than an annual total. The company also highlighted digital gift cards and ecommerce adoption among younger consumers. That statistic described digital retail spending broadly; it did not measure spending on gift cards specifically. Runa said the expanded network could be used for gig economy payments, customer rebates and loyalty rewards.
