# Spotify confirms gift card sales have ended, with existing cards still redeemable

Spotify's gift-card withdrawal closes a retail acquisition route while leaving existing prepaid obligations and a large subscription business in place.

[Spotify](https://giftcard.news/company/spotify/) confirmed on June 30, 2026 that gift cards were no longer available to buy, while previously purchased cards remained redeemable under their applicable terms. The decision removes a way of paying for the service through a gift-card catalogue or retail purchase. It does not close the subscription service itself, and it does not extinguish the value of cards already issued.

## A distribution change inside a subscription business

Spotify sells access to music and other audio through paid subscriptions alongside an advertising-supported service. Removing the channel potentially simplifies how subscriptions are sold and supported, but also removes that gifting and prepaid route. Spotify has not published a financial breakdown showing which effect drove the decision. There is no basis in the reviewed statements to label the change a proven margin improvement or an anti-fraud measure.

## What remains available to cardholders

Spotify's support rules limit cards to eligible individual Premium accounts and require the account region to match the purchase market. The prepaid period can precede ordinary billing; if no payment method is established when it ends, the
