The company presented the digital gift card in November 2023. The special edition connects its existing gifting product with the environmental themes of the conference. YOUGotaGift positioned it for personal gifts as well as employee incentives, customer rewards and loyalty programmes. The company argued that distributing cards electronically can reduce reliance on physical plastic cards and their associated handling. Its announcement used that rationale to explain the GOGREEN branding. The release did not provide a lifecycle assessment of the product or quantify an emissions reduction. The environmental message was therefore a company positioning statement, rather than a measured result for the special edition.
