The South African provider distinguished the purpose of each programme from the shared issuing, tracking and redemption functions used to deliver value. In Yoyo’s description, a gift card supplies prepaid value for spending with a merchant, while a loyalty programme recognises repeat activity over time. A broader reward programme can instead respond to an individual action, such as a referral, sign-up or performance milestone. The company also described how the categories overlap. A gift card can be the payout selected after a member earns loyalty points, or the reward delivered following a single promotional action. Yoyo linked that overlap to its case for common infrastructure. It said its wiCode Voucher API supported issuing, tracking and redeeming vouchers, and positioned those functions as relevant across different programme designs.
