Cardholders could purchase and hold gift cards inside the app, extending its role beyond managing the credit account. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) [\[S02\]](#article-source-2) ## Separate services behind one purchase The account, written by engineer [Sean Sain](https://giftcard.news/person/sean-sain/), described [Stripe](https://giftcard.news/company/stripe/) for payment processing and [InComm](https://giftcard.news/company/incomm-payments/) for gift-card connectivity. [Very Good Security](https://giftcard.news/company/very-good-security/) handled tokenised payment-data routing. The initial catalog contained about 50 brands, with expansion beyond 100 described as a plan. [\[S02\]](#article-source-2) Those roles should not be confused with card issuance. Stripe’s presence in this implementation concerns payment for the gift-card purchase. The engineering description does not establish that Stripe issued the gift cards. [\[S02\]](#article-source-2) ## A new reason to open the issuer app Placing gift-card commerce alongside a credit account creates a different distribution opportunity from a standalone gift-card store. The user is already in a financial relationship with the app, and the new purchase can sit beside familiar account controls. That convenience depends on the handover between systems. A payment authorisation is not itself a gift-card delivery. The app still needs to receive the correct product and make its value available to the purchaser, while handling errors at either stage. Cardless described the implementation as a first of its kind. The supplied account documents the company’s product and engineering choices, but does not independently establish a market-wide first. Nor does it provide adoption, purchase-volume or retention results. The development shows how gift-card distribution can become a feature within another financial product.
