The capability went live at all 15 stations on June 2, adding a transport use for locally restricted gift-card balances within the operator's contactless pay-as-you-go system. SPT has accepted physical Scotland Loves Local gift cards for Subway ticket purchases since 2022\. The new development is the ability to use the digital Glasgow card at the gate, rather than the first opportunity to spend a local gift card on a Subway journey. Its integration and ticketing manager, Michael Nimmo, said passengers using the digital Glasgow Gift Card could benefit from the system's best-value pricing. The announcement did not publish a separate gift-card fare or new tariff. The integration concerns the Glasgow card specifically; it does not establish that every geographically branded Scotland Loves Local card can be used at Glasgow Subway gates. The programme’s consumer terms confirm a £5 minimum load and £500 maximum load or balance. These limits describe the amount bought into the local programme; they are separate from the fare charged when a recipient travels. Those figures cover the wider programme, not Glasgow Subway revenue or the number of Glasgow merchants. For the programme operator, the relevant development is an additional point at which a digital balance can be used. The card's role now reaches the station gate as well as participating shops and services. Miconex argued that easier transport payment could support visits to local businesses. Its announcement connected the change to recipients' wider city spending, including the journey home. That is the commercial rationale for combining transport and local gifting, rather than evidence that the new integration has already increased economic activity. They restrict spending to approved merchants; the Glasgow product page separately identifies corporate and bulk ordering. A card’s sale amount therefore cannot be treated as transport revenue, and the Scotland-wide network cannot be treated as a Glasgow acceptance count. Glasgow demonstrates a specific expansion in where a digital card can be presented.
