# Shopify POS update fixes physical gift-card activation after cart changes

Shopify says POS 11.16 preserves a physical card's identity when an extension updates the shopping cart, addressing a reported activation failure.

[Shopify](https://giftcard.news/company/shopify/) says its POS 11.16 update fixes a problem that could leave a purchased physical gift card unactivated after an extension changed the customer's cart.

 

In a September 28 response on Shopify's developer forum [[S01]](https://giftcard.news/payments-technology/shopify-pos-physical-gift-card-activation-fix/#article-source-1), Shopify staff member Brian Edwards confirmed the correction and said rollout began that day. The company's retail release roundup [[S02]](https://giftcard.news/payments-technology/shopify-pos-physical-gift-card-activation-fix/#article-source-2) also dates version 11.16 to September 28.

 

The developer who reported the issue on September 25 described a specific interaction with bulkCartUpdate, an operation used by POS extensions to replace cart contents. Passing an existing gift-card
