The agreement combines financial-services development with broader distribution of the retailer’s own prepaid gift products. InComm will manage the existing physical gift card program and introduce digital Walgreens gift cards, including online purchase and redemption. The companies also plan to distribute the cards more widely through business-to-business, loyalty, reward and ecommerce channels. The planned bank account will be established at [MetaBank](https://giftcard.news/company/metabank/) with a [Mastercard](https://giftcard.news/company/mastercard/) debit card. Walgreens said customers would be able to earn myWalgreens Cash rewards on purchases and manage the account through a mobile banking app. The account was expected to become available online and at nearly 9,000 Walgreens stores in the second half of 2021\. InComm’s banking-as-a-service platform will support the offering, with MetaBank providing the deposit account and issuing the debit card. Walgreens described the agreement as part of its wider effort to add financial products and new revenue streams.
