The feature allowed a recipient to open a link in a payment email, accept the terms and card agreements, and view a card without first creating an account or password. After accessing the card, recipients could use the funds or add the card to a mobile wallet. Whistle positioned the change around the recipient's experience, while its existing payment platform continued to support managers distributing bonuses, reimbursing purchases and funding team activities. The company described three access safeguards. An email link could sign a recipient in only once, expired after 24 hours, and was subject to a balance threshold that could trigger a second authorization factor. It did not disclose the numerical value of that threshold in the announcement. Once a link had been used, the recipient would need to log in again to manage the wallet. That distinction separated the initial password-free payment experience from continuing access to account functions. Whistle argued that complicated redemption steps could discourage recipients from using gift cards and points-based rewards. Magic Links was intended to remove some of that friction from its own employee payment process. The announcement did not provide a measured change in redemption rates following the launch. The company listed ad hoc bonuses, wellness rewards, team culture budgets and distributed charitable giving among the platform's uses.
