# Zenus adds J.P. Morgan's Kinexys network to expand settlement beyond banking hours

The July 2026 implementation adds an institutional settlement route. Its value depends on where liquidity sits, which counterparties are connected and how funding moves between networks.

[Zenus Bank](https://giftcard.news/company/zenus-bank/) announced its implementation of Kinexys by [J.P. Morgan](https://giftcard.news/company/j-p-morgan/) on July 3, 2026, adding Blockchain Deposit Accounts to the networks behind its institutional payments platform. The announcement identifies near-real-time international payments, automated foreign exchange and programmable transactions as the capabilities being added for fintechs, program managers and financial institutions.

The commercial question is how that extra route changes the positioning of money. A faster settlement network can reduce the time a funded payment waits to move, but its benefit depends on the balances available, the counterparties reachable and the next leg needed to deliver value to the customer. Those distinctions are especially relevant to businesses that promise payouts or card funding outside the working week.

**What the implementation establishes**

Zenus announced the implementation on July 3, 2026\. It did not publish a Zenus-specific Kinexys transaction total, customer tariff or currency-by-currency activation schedule.

The wider Zenus platform was described as reaching approximately 180 markets. That is not a list of markets in which every Kinexys capability is enabled.

J.P. Morgan's own documentation differentiates continuous on-network transfers from a weekly interruption affecting movement between traditional accounts and Blockchain Deposit Accounts.

Zenus Head of Fintech [Tigran Tovmasyan](https://giftcard.news/person/tigran-tovmasyan/) described a single integration connecting partners with banking, payments and settlement. [Ernesto Davila](https://giftcard.news/person/ernesto-davila/), the bank's Payments and Treasury Operations Manager, linked Kinexys to liquidity management and payment execution. From the network side, [Zack Chestnut](https://giftcard.news/person/zack-chestnut/), Global Head of Commercial at Kinexys by J.P. Morgan, said the collaboration supported Zenus's effort to expand access to modern banking and payments. Source announcement.

## How a Blockchain Deposit Account fits into the payment chain

J.P. Morgan describes a Blockchain Deposit Account, or BDA, as a bank deposit account that supports near-real-time settlement and programmable movement. Clients can connect through APIs, SWIFT or a user interface. Its product documentation also distinguishes BDA functionality from optional capabilities such as more advanced programmable payments and onchain FX.

This makes the account useful as a place from which an institution can manage settlement liquidity. It does not make the blockchain ledger identical to every domestic payment system, card network or customer wallet connected elsewhere. A payment may need more than one movement before the beneficiary can use it, and each movement has its own operating conditions.

## The June 2026 expansion puts the announcement in context

Just before the Zenus announcement, J.P. Morgan expanded the BDA network on June 29, 2026 by adding Australian dollars, Hong Kong dollars, Japanese yen, renminbi and Singapore dollars to its existing U.S. dollar, euro and sterling offering. The operator said the expanded network supported payments, onchain FX and programmable treasury across those eight currencies.

The expansion increased the network's currency offering from the three existing currencies expressly named in the release to eight. This is a change in the operator's BDA offering, distinct from the currencies enabled for any individual Zenus program. J.P. Morgan's June 29 currency expansion.

The same release reported more than $4 trillion in transaction volume since Kinexys's inception and average daily volume above $7 billion. These are network-wide figures supplied by J.P. Morgan. They describe the scale of the infrastructure Zenus is connecting to, without establishing how much of it Zenus or any particular partner uses.

The operator's earlier disclosures provide scale milestones for that cumulative figure. Its November 6, 2024 rebrand announcement reported more than $1.5 trillion processed since inception; the April 28, 2026 update reported more than $3 trillion, before the June release reported more than $4 trillion. Each disclosure is a lower bound for the entire network. J.P. Morgan's original 2024 platform disclosure.

J.P. Morgan also named Payoneer as an early user of AUD-denominated accounts for settlement and JERA Global Markets as an early user of JPY-denominated accounts for intragroup treasury. Those examples show distinct applications: supporting payment-provider funding and coordinating money inside a corporate group. Neither is evidence that the same setup, currency access or pricing applies to a Zenus client.

## Where the 24/7 promise has an operating boundary

The network operator's product footnote states that on-network transfers operate on a 24/7/365 and same-day basis. It also identifies a three-hour interruption, Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST, for moving funds between traditional demand deposit accounts on legacy systems and Blockchain Deposit Accounts. The time zone is reproduced as published by J.P. Morgan.

That is a funding boundary worth keeping in the main story. An institution with balances already available inside the network is in a different position from one that needs to bring in new money during that window. A treasury plan needs to account for both situations before a service is advertised to end users as available at any time.

The operator also makes access subject to its determination, applicable approvals and geographic availability. Zenus's implementation therefore creates a route that can support additional services; a program's actual coverage still depends on what has been enabled for its institution, counterparties and intended flow.

## Settlement timing and prefunding economics

For an international card or payout program, prefunding ties up money before the final obligation occurs. Better timing can make a fixed pool of money more useful: funds returned from one obligation may become available for another sooner. That is an analytical explanation of the potential value, not a measured saving disclosed by Zenus.

The operator also reports average daily throughput, a flow measure distinct from cumulative processing. Published thresholds moved from more than $2 billion in the 2024 announcement to more than $5 billion in April 2026 and more than $7 billion in June. The averaging windows are not fully aligned, so the disclosures are shown as thresholds rather than a calculated growth rate. J.P. Morgan's April 2026 network update.

Programmable instructions can also help align execution with a business condition, such as an approved treasury transfer or a required balance threshold. Their usefulness depends on accurate data, authorized instructions and sufficient funds. Automation does not remove the need to reconcile the payment, investigate an exception or observe sanctions controls.

Zenus's commercial client terms expressly require sufficient funds to cover payments and applicable fees and permit delays or rejection for specified compliance reasons. The terms are a general commercial account agreement rather than a Kinexys service specification, but they illustrate why a settlement capability and an unconditional promise to release every payment are different commitments.

## What this can mean for rewards and disbursements

For international incentive cards, the operational opportunity is to position settlement liquidity closer to the moment a program needs it. For payouts, it is to settle with an enabled counterparty outside a conventional cutoff. Both uses depend on the funding route and the program's connection to that counterparty.

The card itself remains a separate part of the arrangement. Zenus's issuing proposition combines Visa BIN sponsorship, a program manager's brand and a choice of processor. A recipient's available balance, card authorization and merchant acceptance depend on the card program and its controls. A completed treasury transfer does not by itself prove that a reward has loaded or a purchase will be authorized.

The operational result turns on the time from funding instruction to usable balance, the flows that can reach their destination through the service and the liquidity positioned around funding interruptions. That is where a continuously operating settlement network connects with a program's promise to its customers. Kinexys adds a route through which Zenus can support that coordination.
