[Giftogram](https://giftcard.news/company/giftogram/)’s July 2026 guide to employee recognition draws on a study of 43,513 workplace conversations that it first released in March. The analysis puts gift cards within a wider discussion about appreciation: employees want recognition to reflect what they did and to offer something useful to them. It is an analysis of online discussion, not a representative employee survey. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) [\[S02\]](#article-source-2)

## Where the evidence comes from

The original announcement identifies 12 workplace-focused [Reddit](https://giftcard.news/company/reddit/) communities as the source of the conversations. Giftogram’s accompanying report page gives the observation period as February 2025 to February 2026\. Its July guide records 574 explicit gift card mentions among 10,578 conversations mentioning gifts. Those are coded discussion counts, rather than a population preference rate. __Where the evidence comes from__
| Measure | Scope reported | Interpretation |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| 43,513 conversations | Workplace discussions analysed | A selected online corpus, not a count of surveyed employees |
| 12 communities | Workplace-focused Reddit communities | The setting from which discussion was drawn |
| 10,578 conversations | Discussions mentioning gifts | A subset of the wider corpus |
| 574 mentions | Explicit gift card references in the July guide | Not evidence that 574 distinct people chose gift cards in a survey |

The distinction matters because participation in an online community is self-selected. People may post precisely because an experience upset or pleased them. A conversation can also contain several contributors, and the public summaries do not provide sufficient deduplication or coding detail to convert those counts into unique employees.

## Choice is one part of recognition

Giftogram reported that descriptions of feeling invisible appeared 4.1 times as often as feeling valued, while infrequent recognition was mentioned 3.3 times as often as regular appreciation. [\[S02\]](#article-source-2) These are ratios within the analysed material. They do not mean that a randomly selected worker is 4.1 times more likely to feel invisible.

For reward programme design, the findings suggest a question worth asking locally: does the recipient understand why the recognition was given, and can they use the reward? A flexible gift card can address the second question. It cannot supply the first on its own. The manager’s explanation and the consistency of recognition remain separate parts of the experience.

## What the research cannot establish

The public summaries do not publish a complete coding protocol or establish that the discussions represent the workforce. Accounts of leaving a job are self-reported, and mention ratios cannot quantify the effect of a recognition programme on retention. [\[S01\]](#article-source-1) [\[S02\]](#article-source-2)

The useful role of this material is exploratory. It can identify complaints and preferences for an employer to investigate with its own workforce. Turning those themes into a programme still requires direct feedback, defined eligibility and a way to assess whether recipients find the recognition meaningful.
