The Decoding Payouts study reports respondents’ stated reactions to payment problems rather than observed departures from a particular platform. The company said respondents wanted timely, predictable payments and more payout choices. Options discussed include digital wallets such as [PayPal](https://giftcard.news/company/paypal/), [Venmo](https://giftcard.news/company/venmo/) and [Zelle](https://giftcard.news/company/zelle/), push-to-card or debit-card payments using services such as [Visa](https://giftcard.news/company/visa/) Direct, bank transfers and gift cards. High fees were another concern, with more than a third of respondents wanting lower charges to access payouts. Runa also reported that 40% would reduce work with a platform after a negative payment experience and 31% would switch platforms entirely. CEO and founder [Aron Alexander](https://giftcard.news/person/aron-alexander/) linked fast payment and recipient choice with why people take on independent work. The company described its API as serving thousands of businesses and reaching more than five billion consumers across over 190 countries at the time of the announcement. The release also cited an [Upwork](https://giftcard.news/company/upwork/) forecast that more than half of the US workforce would participate in freelance work by 2028\.
