[Amy Small](https://giftcard.news/person/amy-small/), executive vice president and executive director of institutional custody, described growth from a $60 billion base and a broader client mix. Small said custody had operated as an add-on to [UMB Fund Services](https://giftcard.news/company/umb-fund-services/) before 2018, when the opportunity to develop a standalone business emerged. Mutual funds now represented 30% of the custody business described in the profile, with alternative investments, government, insurance and corporate clients making up the remainder. She identified increasingly complex government portfolios as one source of demand. Services discussed include risk and performance reporting, compliance monitoring, collateral management and support for treasury and liquidity. For insurers, she highlighted alternative-asset servicing, foreign exchange and regulatory reporting. Liquidity was another focus. Small said [UMB](https://giftcard.news/company/umb/) offers lines of credit and reverse repurchase arrangements, including committed reverse repo facilities as well as uncommitted facilities. She also described demand for specialised support from managers of private and semi-liquid funds. According to Small, investors can prompt private fund managers to engage a custodian for independent oversight of money movements and related controls. The ancillary services discussed include cash and document administration, investor onboarding, completion of alternative-investment subscription documents and tri-party collateral arrangements. On operational developments, Small highlighted business email compromise and increasingly convincing fraudulent payment instructions. She also said UMB was monitoring digital assets and working with UMB Fund Services to prepare for ETF share classes within traditional mutual funds. The profile covered team development as well as the business. Small described a mentoring and coaching programme for custody and operations staff, alongside support for employees’ family, education and volunteering commitments. Small also discussed the team’s holiday support for families through Mother’s Refuge in place of exchanging gifts with each other.
