[Bucketlist Rewards](https://giftcard.news/company/bucketlist-rewards/) has introduced Smart Awards, a capability that turns milestones recorded in an employer's business systems into employee recognition. Announced on September 16, 2026, the launch extends automated awards beyond calendar events into work such as completed training, sales targets and customer-service results. The change adds a new route into a rewards programme that already supports gift-card redemption. It concerns when an award is issued, rather than the addition of a new gift-card brand or a change in the value employees receive.

## From a recorded event to an award

Bucketlist's product description sets out a division of responsibilities. The employer chooses the qualifying milestone, eligible employees, award message and point value. Bucketlist works with the employer's technology team or system owners to connect the underlying systems and verify the events that trigger recognition. [\[S02\]](#article-source-2)

That makes the source record central to the service. A training completion in a learning platform or a target reached in a sales system can initiate an award without a manager separately noticing the result and entering recognition. Bucketlist identifies HR, learning, customer-relationship, workforce and operational systems as potential connections. It says its integration access spans more than 1,200 applications; that figure is a statement about connectivity, not a count of deployed Smart Awards programmes. [\[S02\]](#article-source-2)

For employers with dispersed teams, the practical opportunity is to make achievements visible across departments that use different software. The outcome still depends on the employer defining an appropriate event and supplying reliable records. Automating the trigger alone does not establish improved retention, safer work or higher sales.

## How gift cards enter the workflow

Bucketlist operates a recognition and rewards platform in which employees earn and redeem points. Its marketplace offers gift cards alongside experiences, company merchandise and other choices, with catalogues localized for different markets. An automated recognition event and the employee's subsequent redemption are therefore separate steps. [\[S03\]](#article-source-3)

The company was created in 2015 by [Jason Lindstrom](https://giftcard.news/person/jason-lindstrom-person-875c0910/) and [Bart Wisniowski](https://giftcard.news/person/bart-wisniowski-person-831899f0/). Its business combines programme software with access to rewards, giving Smart Awards an existing redemption destination once the connected systems establish that an employee qualifies. Bucketlist's published pricing separates the two budgets. Software carries a setup fee and an annual subscription tied to employee numbers, while rewards are billed separately at their base cost, including a gift card's face value. The launch could reduce the manual work between an operational achievement and a funded award. For gift-card suppliers and rewards buyers, its significance lies in connecting more business activity to that existing reward channel. It does not by itself demonstrate additional gift-card volume: that would require evidence of programme adoption, awards issued and employees' actual redemption choices.
