The September 17 article is an operational guide, rather than an announcement of a new gift-card product. The company recommends separating study-response data from the information used to issue rewards where the approved research process allows it. It says Gift Links can be distributed through an institution’s own channels without the research team supplying a participant email address to Giftbit. That reduces one transfer of personal information; it does not establish complete anonymity. Researchers still need a way to reconcile issued, claimed, reissued and outstanding rewards. Giftbit’s guide also warns that account verification, reward availability and participant-information requirements can depend on the programme and product. Institutional rules can change the accounting treatment. [Dartmouth College](https://giftcard.news/organization/dartmouth-college/)’s participant-payments policy requires approved payment methods, supporting records and accountability for funds distributed. It says undistributed payments, including unused gift cards, cannot be charged to the research project. Those are Dartmouth’s requirements, rather than a universal rule for every university or research sponsor. Funding costs are a separate part of the budget. Giftbit’s current pricing page lists a 2.9% charge for credit-card funding and says it has no subscription, platform or minimum fees. It also identifies fees for selected prepaid-card products. A programme therefore needs to distinguish the cost of funding its account from the cost of the reward it chooses. The useful operational question is not simply whether a platform can send a thousand cards.
