Its accompanying survey found 73% of respondents wanted to give gifts supporting local businesses and 70% wanted to receive them. The New Orleans program supplied 50 participating businesses with a $200 gift card each to award to a customer before year-end. It formed part of an initiative covering seven neighborhoods identified by the company as facing disinvestment. In Los Angeles and New York, eligible purchases at more than 750 participating businesses qualified for 20% statement credits. That offer ended on December 31, 2021 or when each market's $100,000 credit allocation was reached. Separate San Diego and Pittsburgh programs offered eligible cardholders 2% cash back. Mastercard linked the campaigns to survey findings on shoppers' interest in businesses matching their values.
