The guidance suggested considering that distinction when deciding how to present a reward. The company described physical gifts and experiences as possible reminders of an accomplishment. These were its reasons for including incentives in a recognition programme, rather than evidence of a measured improvement in performance. Regular contact between colleagues was another theme. TruCentive proposed informal gatherings, including online meetings for dispersed teams, held during the working day and repeated often enough to become familiar. The post referred to Gallup employee-engagement figures available at the time and argued for pairing recognition with communication.
