epay and Revolut announced a global gift card and prepaid-content partnership on 17 May 2021, connecting epay's catalog to Revolut through a single API. The agreement followed an initial launch in April and set out a phased expansion across 36 countries. [S01] [S02]

The proposition was to let customers purchase digital content, send gifts and receive rewards without leaving the financial app. For epay, a division of Euronet Worldwide, it created an additional mobile distribution channel for the brands in its network. [S01]

The release named Twitch, IKEA, Nintendo and Spotify Premium among the digital-content brands, spanning shopping, entertainment and other categories. It reported 15 million Revolut customers at the time; that was the app's overall customer base, not the number using gift cards. [S02]

Distribution inside an existing customer journey

A financial app already has a relationship with its users. Adding gift cards gives a brand another place to be discovered and purchased, while giving the app another reason for a customer to return. The integration places that activity within a familiar interface instead of sending the customer through a separate purchasing journey.

Kevin Caponecchi, epay's CEO, framed the relationship as an infrastructure role supporting international distribution. Revolut product owner Maisum Dairkee emphasised access to content through the existing app experience. Those were the partners' stated aims, not independently measured improvements in retention. For programme operators, the next questions were practical: which brands and denominations would be available in each market, what the recipient would see, and how purchase and delivery issues would be resolved. The launch established the partnership and its intended reach, but supplied no gift-card sales, redemption or repeat-purchase results.
