GiftCardGranny introduced a Next Gen Brands section on November 8, 2018, highlighting gift-card offers for services including Uber, Home Chef and Atom Tickets. The company positioned the category around changing shopping habits and demand for newer service brands. [S01]
Catalog organisation as a distribution choice
Mark Romanelli, identified as chief product officer in the release, described the update as a way to bring familiar and newer brands together. The announcement advertised discounts of 5% to 50% on offers in the section. Those were promotional claims at the time, not a guarantee for each brand or a current price range. [S01]
No exclusive distribution rights, transaction volumes or financial terms were disclosed. The confirmed change was the addition and presentation of the category within GiftCardGranny’s marketplace. [S01]
The occasion can matter as much as the retailer
A catalog built only around traditional store categories may make a service-based gift harder to discover. Grouping newer offers can give buyers another starting point: transport, a meal at home or an evening out, rather than a particular retail aisle.
That is a merchandising decision as well as a supplier decision. Availability puts a product in the catalog; presentation determines how readily the buyer finds it and understands the occasion it serves.
The November 2018 release documents that approach. It does not establish how customers responded, whether the section increased sales or how its selection developed later. Those outcomes would require evidence beyond the launch announcement.
