Giftima entered the European gift card market in January 2026 with a storefront that rewards purchases with points for later spending. Its Swedish operator, H.H Mindful Hiring AB, announced service for the Nordic region, Germany and Poland on January 22. [S01]

The proposition combines two transactions: a customer buys a retailer's prepaid value, then earns a separate incentive to return to the marketplace. That gives Giftima a reason to maintain the customer relationship after the first card has been delivered.

A marketplace with its own loyalty balance

At launch, the company described country-specific catalogues, offers shown before checkout and points awarded after a completed purchase. It also planned mobile applications for the end of the first quarter. The announcement did not establish that those applications had already shipped. [S01]

Giftima's current privacy policy identifies the operator as Giftima Sverige AB and describes a gift card purchasing service rather than a payment account. It says third-party payment providers process transactions and that the platform does not hold customer funds on users' behalf. Those are the operator's descriptions of its model. [S03]

The distinction matters commercially. Giftima is trying to become the place where a shopper chooses and buys a card, while the retailer remains responsible for the goods or services obtained with it. Loyalty points create an additional reason to choose this storefront rather than going directly to the retailer.

The points rate needs a correction

The launch release stated that one point equalled one euro. Current terms instead specify 100 points for €1, a 1,000-point redemption minimum, 12-month expiry and no cash withdrawal.
