Resal and Mastercard announced a cooperation agreement in Saudi Arabia on September 13, 2021. The partners planned promotional activity for Mastercard customers using Resal's digital gift card and rewards services.
Resal co-founder and chief executive Hatem Kameli said customers would be able to explore a catalog containing more than 400 brands. The company described a business covering consumer digital cards, corporate rewards and loyalty-program tools.
The announcement linked the partnership with changing shopping habits during the pandemic. Mastercard cited its earlier research in which 77% of Saudi respondents said they had moved shopping online after the pandemic began, with convenience and payment security among the motivations reported.
Resal said it operated in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait and intended to reach the remaining Gulf Cooperation Council markets by the end of 2021. It also referenced its acquisition of loyalty business Boonus as part of its expansion plans.
