Yoyo outlined its wiCode gift card and voucher API infrastructure in a guide published on March 29, 2026. The company said the network connected more than 27,000 South African stores, allowing businesses to issue digital rewards through a single integration.
The Voucher API creates and manages codes after a business determines that a customer has earned a reward. Delivery can take place through an app, SMS, email or WhatsApp. At redemption, the participating retailer’s point-of-sale system sends a validation request through the network, with settlement and reporting following the transaction.
The business issuing a reward remains responsible for the loyalty rules that determine eligibility and value. Yoyo described wiCode as the infrastructure for issuing, distributing and redeeming that reward, rather than the system that decides how a customer earns it.
Programme configuration also determines where a code can be spent. A business can restrict a reward to one retailer or allow redemption across a wider selection of participating stores. The network’s overall store count therefore does not mean every individual voucher works at every location.
Yoyo distinguished single-use promotional vouchers from gift cards that retain a balance for later transactions. It also described support for percentage discounts, minimum-spend offers and rewards limited to particular products.
The company listed live code validation, configurable issuance limits, redemption monitoring and transaction records among its controls. The use cases it described included employee recognition, cashback conversion, health incentives, customer complaint resolution and telecom loyalty programmes.
