Diggecard has described how personalisation can give a digital gift card more of the presentation associated with a physical gift. Its June 2021 guidance discusses the purchase and delivery experience for both consumer gifting and corporate reward programmes.

The company cites the GCVA's first-half 2020 data report, which put digital gift cards' market share at 30% in that period, almost double the share in the second half of 2019. The historical figures provide context for the move towards digital formats; they are not a measurement of the market in June 2021.

Diggecard notes that a physical card can be placed in a greeting card or wrapped, providing something tangible to hand over. It argues that digital programmes can create a more personal moment by letting the sender upload a photograph or video and choose the exact delivery date and time.

These options can be used when an individual sends a gift to a friend or relative, or when a business distributes rewards to employees, customers or members. The guide separates that personalised presentation from simply emailing an unadorned reward.

Brand messaging is another option. Diggecard discusses messages from the retailer or its ambassadors as content that could accompany a digital card, including possible paid additions to a gift purchase.

The provider connects the guidance with its modular gift card technology and says it was already working with retailers including The Body Shop on personalisation. The article describes programme features and potential uses rather than reporting a quantified effect on sales or loyalty.
