Member Access Processing and equipifi announced a partnership to bring white-label buy now, pay later services to credit unions. The MAP archive page is dated September 22, 2022, while the announcement reproduced on it carries a September 29, 2022 dateline.

The agreement would let MAP's credit union clients offer installment options on credit and debit transactions. equipifi's platform uses an institution's existing data and digital banking environment to present offers that members can view, accept and manage in their banking app.

MAP said it served more than 100 credit unions across nearly 30 states at the time. Those institutions collectively had more than 10 million members and more than $100 billion in assets. These figures describe the client network cited in the 2022 announcement.

equipifi supplies the BNPL software platform, while MAP provides the credit union card-processing relationship. Both companies linked the partnership with member engagement and opportunities for credit unions to develop their lending revenue.

equipifi co-founder and chief executive Bryce Deeney cited figures of 60% of American consumers having tried BNPL and 70% preferring an option from their primary financial institution. Those percentages were claims included in the announcement; the release did not identify the underlying sample or survey period.

MAP described itself as a Visa Debit Processing Service aggregator and a subsidiary of Currence Payment Solutions. Its wider services included debit, credit, ATM, mobile, reloadable prepaid and gift card programs. The release did not specify interest rates, fees or individual credit union rollout dates for the BNPL offering.
