Sezzle and Bealls announced a buy now, pay later partnership on December 16, 2024, making Sezzle’s payment options available online and across more than 650 stores. The rollout covered the bealls, Bealls Florida and Home Centric banners. [S01]

A payment option across three retail banners

The announcement described instalments over six weeks for eligible purchases and framed the launch around holiday shopping. Bealls sells apparel, home goods and gifts, making payment choice relevant to a broad seasonal basket rather than a single product category. [S01]

Sezzle linked the launch to the use of instalments during the holiday period. Its claims about helping shoppers manage budgets were the company’s commercial rationale, rather than evidence that using the service improves an individual customer’s finances.

What gifting businesses can take from the rollout

A payment method available in both channels gives a retailer a more consistent checkout proposition for customers moving between a website and stores. It also creates an operational need to explain eligibility and repayment terms clearly at the point of purchase.

The release did not establish that gift cards themselves qualified for instalment financing. A retailer selling gifts and a retailer permitting finance on stored-value products are different propositions. Gift-card operators should not infer the latter from this announcement.

The launch also did not provide results from Bealls customers after implementation. It documents availability and intended use during the 2024 holiday period, without demonstrating an increase in conversion, basket size or repeat purchases.
