The gift-card liability ended the quarter at USD85.408 million, against USD81.778 million a year earlier. It began the current quarter at USD88.590 million, with issuance increasing the obligation and redemption and breakage reducing it.
All figures are monetary amounts. They are not counts of cards sold, and issuance of stored value does not itself represent a merchandise sale.
Academy says it sells cards in stores, online and through third-party retail locations. Its cards have no expiration dates; the breakage estimate instead reflects historical redemption patterns. The filing supplies a current issuer-level rollforward without establishing a digital-versus-physical split, an industry-wide trend or the causes of changes in demand.
