InComm Payments highlighted gift card growth across Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduation in a May 2024 seasonal infographic. The report combines National Retail Federation data for 2023 with InComm category information identified as a 2024 report.

The infographic states that Mother's Day gift card spending rose 4% year over year in 2023. It reports a 4.5% increase in Father's Day gift card purchases and growth of more than 6% in gift card spending for graduates during the same year.

For Mother's Day, InComm lists open-loop cards, department stores and family restaurants among the leading gift card categories. For Father's Day, the highlighted categories are open-loop cards, DIY and sports or outdoor spending.

Gift cards were identified as the second most popular graduation gift in the 2023 data. The three occasions create different merchandising needs even though all fall within the spring and early-summer gifting period.

InComm presents the findings as an opportunity for retailers to plan both physical-store and online gift card sales. The growth figures describe 2023 activity, while the category information and publication are dated 2024.
