UPay reported on July 20, 2026 that Stephen Newnham, the head of Solana community group Superteam UK, had announced an intention to contest the Clacton parliamentary by-election. The report described proposals covering blockchain transparency, digital education and financial literacy.
An announced intention to stand was distinct from a confirmed nomination. Tendring District Council’s final candidate list, published on July 17, named 34 candidates for the August 13 election and did not include Newnham. The list included Nigel Farage and Count Binface.
According to UPay’s account, Newnham’s proposals included publishing campaign donations and meetings in plain English and recording them on a blockchain. The report said a technical framework had not been released, including how completeness of disclosure would be checked.
