Visa released survey findings on December 2, 2025 showing how US shoppers were using AI tools and considering cryptocurrency gifts. Bruce Cundiff, Visa’s vice president of Consumer Insights, highlighted the adoption of digital shopping tools; 47% of respondents reported using AI for at least one shopping task.
The survey found that 47 percent of US shoppers have used an AI tool for at least one shopping task, with finding gift ideas being the top AI-assisted use. Additionally, 28 percent of shoppers would be excited to receive cryptocurrency as a gift, a number that increases to 45 percent for Gen Z. The survey also showed that Gen Z is leading the charge in adopting next-generation payment and shopping methods, including biometric authentication, purchasing gifts from overseas, and making purchases via cryptocurrency.
Separately, Visa forecast 4.6% year-over-year growth in total US holiday spending. The survey found that 61% preferred human interaction for customer service and 60% wanted a clearer explanation of how AI shopping tools use their personal data.
The survey was conducted by Morning Consult between October 14 and October 16, 2025, and interviewed a sample of 1,000 US adults. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
