Buyatab announced on May 4, 2018 that it was a finalist for Growth Company of the Year at the 25th BC Technology Impact Awards. The British Columbia Technology Industry Association planned to announce the winner on June 1.

The company supplied a platform for merchants to sell, market and distribute physical and digital gift cards through online channels. Its delivery options included email and text messages, with mobile-wallet compatibility described in the release.

Founder and chief operating officer Matias Marquez attributed the company's development to its technology team and work on gift card ecommerce. The announcement cited earlier recognition of Buyatab's revenue growth in Canadian and North American rankings.

At the time, Buyatab described clients in the United States, Canada and Europe across retail, hospitality, restaurants and related sectors. This May notice concerned finalist status; it preceded the award decision.
