Toast has announced a limited-release promotion option that rewards qualifying online gift-card purchases with another gift card holding its own balance. Its October 21 product update lists the United States and Canada and says access is limited to selected locations. The change adds a stored-value reward alongside the separate discount-voucher promotion type. [S1] [S2] [S3]
For recipients, the distinction is what remains after the email arrives. A bonus gift card has its own number, PIN and balance and is redeemed like another Toast gift card. The existing bonus voucher is a single-use discount code whose unused discount does not carry over. Toast’s documentation says bonus cards count towards the operator’s gift-card liability and appear in gift-card reports. [S2] [S3] [S4]
Earning the new reward is narrower than redeeming it. A qualifying purchase must be made through the Toast eGift Card shop, with the Gift Card Module and online sales enabled. In-person POS purchases, gift-card shops embedded in Toast Websites and branded-app flows do not earn the bonus. Issued bonus cards can nevertheless be redeemed in person, or through Toast Online Ordering where available, at locations in the applicable gift-card group. [S1] [S2] [S3]
That creates an additional balance for the guest to recognise and use. Historical consumer research describes why balance information matters: Accenture’s 2024 US findings, as tabulated by Statista, recorded requests for simpler balance checks, reminders about unused value and easier redemption online and in stores. These are earlier consumer preferences, not measurements of Toast guests or the new promotion. [S5]
