Caribbean Airlines has opened a digital gift-card programme that lets customers give someone credit towards travel without selecting a flight for them. Available from June 24, the cards add a prepaid gifting and incentive channel to the airline's existing ticket sales. Its launch announcement identifies personal gifts and corporate rewards as intended uses. [S01]
The product's spending limits are narrower than the total cost of a trip. Caribbean Airlines' official terms allow gift-card value to cover the base fare of an eligible ticket, but exclude taxes, fees and surcharges. A recipient may therefore need another payment source even when the gift-card balance is large enough to cover the advertised ticket total. [S02]
Purchase value, eligible travel and the airline wallet
Caribbean Airlines is both the issuer and the business redeeming the cards. They are delivered by email, denominated in US dollars, Canadian dollars or euros, and have no expiry date. Redemption begins at least 24 hours after issuance. Unused value remains available for subsequent purchases rather than having to be spent in one transaction. [S02]
The live US-dollar purchase form accepts a custom value from US$50 to US$5,000. The terms separately set C$50–C$5,000 and €50–€5,000 limits for those currencies; equal numerical endpoints do not mean equal purchasing power. These are purchase boundaries, not a guarantee that a ticket at that price can be funded entirely with the card. [S02] [S03]

These are product bounds, not two denominations, average purchases or total travel budgets. CAD and EUR cards have separately stated limits in their own currencies; no exchange-rate comparison is made. Gift-card face value does not override the base-fare restriction or cover taxes, fees and surcharges.

The airline's launch notice says redemption is available online, through its reservations call centre and at airport and city ticket offices. It also identifies eligible extras such as baggage, pre-ordered meals and preferred seating. These channels extend the use of a digital balance beyond a single online checkout. [S01]
The shop FAQ contains conflicting wording on taxes: it first refers to base fare and taxes, then says taxes, fees and surcharges must be paid another way. The formal terms are explicit in excluding them. The app remains marked as coming soon in both current documents, so its inclusion in a channel list is not evidence that mobile-app redemption is live. [S02] [S04]
A digital wallet function brings gift cards and travel vouchers together. Under the official terms, it does not accept independent cash deposits or permit cash withdrawals, transfers between users or payment to outside merchants. Its purpose is to manage value redeemable with the airline. [S02]
That boundary is relevant to corporate buyers as well as individual givers. Funding a travel gift does not create a general spending account for the recipient. The benefit is flexibility over the later airline purchase, subject to the redemption rules, rather than freedom to move the value into unrelated purchases.
The launch adds another airline-specific product to a region where gift-card programmes use different redemption and distribution models. Its commercial opportunity lies in allowing one person or organisation to fund part of another person's future travel while the recipient chooses the eligible booking.
The no-expiry promise concerns the card value. The terms separately allow deactivation of a wallet after two years of inactivity, with unused balances handled under applicable law. That is not an advertised two-year card expiry. The launch promotes corporate incentives, while the terms prohibit travel-agency resale and describe individual consumer use; the reviewed documents do not provide a separate corporate-price schedule. [S01] [S02]
The announcement gives no gift-card sales target or early purchase results. The confirmed development is the new consumer purchase and redemption route from June 24; the balance and wallet rules explain what that route actually provides.
