Diggecard published a gift card terminology guide on July 11, 2023, covering issuing roles, acceptance, redemption and business distribution. Its 17 terms included physical and digital formats, bulk orders and API connections between software systems.
It distinguished physical cards from digitally delivered versions and explained the roles of issuers and recipients. Reloading, balance enquiries and expiry periods were among the product features discussed.
The guide also separated merchant-specific cards from cards accepted through a payment network or a limited group of affiliated merchants. These categories describe different acceptance arrangements rather than different delivery formats.
For redemption, Diggecard included split tender, where a gift card is combined with another payment method, and additional spending above the gift card’s value. It also discussed reporting concepts relevant to programme management.
The business-distribution terms covered bulk orders and API connections between software systems. The article was an educational glossary rather than a new product announcement or a statement of the terms applying to every gift card.
