Giftbit has outlined replacement options for incentive programmes affected by eBay’s decision to phase out sales of its own gift cards. In an August 7, 2026 update, the company focused on programmes that distribute eBay rewards specifically, including those serving automotive professionals, resellers, collectors and small businesses.

eBay’s published guidance confirms that the phase-out began on August 3, 2026. Sales stopped on many digital platforms, while physical and digital cards could remain at selected retailers until their existing inventory was exhausted. The change concerns eBay-issued gift cards; third-party gift card listings on the marketplace remain available.

Existing eBay gift cards and their balances remain valid under the company’s terms. Refunds for cancelled or returned purchases paid for with a gift card continue to return to that card balance. The phase-out therefore affects the supply of new rewards without cancelling value already held by recipients.

Giftbit distinguishes programmes committed to one brand from those offering recipients its broader catalogue. For a programme that already offers choice, eBay’s removal changes the available selection. A campaign promising eBay cards specifically needs to review its reward offer and fulfilment arrangements.

The company identifies prepaid Visa cards as one possible alternative for online spending where Visa debit is accepted. It notes that available payment methods can vary by eBay listing and that recipients need to follow the terms of their prepaid card.

Giftbit also proposes matching replacement brands to the audience. Its examples include automotive retailers such as AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts; tools and home-improvement retailers such as Ace Hardware, The Home Depot and Lowe’s; broader shopping options such as Walmart and Target; and resale or specialist choices such as Etsy, Poshmark and GameStop. These were examples from its US catalogue at the time of writing.

For programme administrators, Giftbit recommends reviewing scheduled campaigns, redemption pages, reward links and API integrations for eBay-specific references. It also recommends updating participant communications and considering a curated or full-choice catalogue where a single replacement would not meet the audience’s needs.
