Diggecard highlighted Ireland’s 2022 increase in the Small Benefit Exemption while describing its gift card services for employers in an article published on November 9, 2022. The company reported that the allowance had risen from €500 to €1,000 and discussed gift cards as one form of non-cash employee reward under the scheme.

The article described the exemption from income tax, PRSI and USC available under that 2022 arrangement. Diggecard presented it as an opportunity for employers to provide additional purchasing power to staff facing higher living costs.

The company also argued that gift card spending could support retail, leisure and hospitality businesses. It pointed to purchases above a card’s face value, commonly called upspend, as a potential additional benefit for merchants.

Diggecard’s Irish catalogue covered supermarkets, dining, travel, clothing, leisure, gaming, digital content, homewares, beauty and DIY. The company said buyers could filter its brand portfolio by country availability when selecting rewards for employees, customers or members.

The article also described a partnership with gifting and fulfilment business Unique Hampers to establish a gift card hub in Kildare. Unique Hampers owned the Christmas2u Christmas savings club, according to Diggecard.

The hub supported bulk delivery of physical cards to a corporate buyer for onward distribution, or delivery directly to individual recipients with personalised messages. Buyers could combine brands in an order, and Diggecard also described digital services alongside fulfilment from within Ireland.
