Virtual Incentives pointed to gift cards as a possible incentive for responding to vehicle recalls in commentary published on January 27, 2022. It cited a Harris Poll conducted for its client Urban Science on the role of rewards in encouraging consumer action.
According to the company’s account of the poll, 80% of customers with outstanding car recalls said an incentive would motivate them to act. That was a statement of respondents’ intentions, rather than a measured 80% recall completion rate.
Virtual Incentives said gift cards were the incentive respondents preferred over the other options discussed. The article did not include the survey’s sample size, fieldwork dates or the complete results table.
The company recommended pairing an incentive with clear communication about the recall and acknowledgement of the inconvenience to the customer. It presented rewards as one part of an outreach process intended to prompt a response.
At the time of the January 2022 article, Virtual Incentives described an offering of more than 1,050 brands across 51 countries and 43 currencies. Those were provider catalogue figures reported in that historical update, not the scope of the Urban Science poll.
