The Salvation Army’s charity shops are joining Scotland Loves Local Gift Card acceptance at 55 locations, including Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife, Dundee, Falkirk, Midlothian, Renfrewshire and St Andrews. The announcement first distributed on 6 July 2026 and confirmed by Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd on 8 July covers regional physical and digital cards. It expands existing local programmes rather than creating a separate Salvation Army gift card. [S01] [S02]
What the acceptance expansion means at shop level
A check of two programme directories on 19 October gives a concrete view of that additional choice: five Salvation Army locations are listed for the Edinburgh Gift Card and one for the Aberdeen Gift Card. Each entry was opened to distinguish the location by its address. These observations cover two named programmes only; they are not a fresh count of all 55 Scottish shops. [S03] [S04]

Edinburgh’s entries cover Earl Grey Street, Gorgie Road, Leith Walk, Newington Road and Piershill Place. Aberdeen’s entry is the donation centre at 876 Great Northern Road. The Aberdeen partnership account also includes local operator Aberdeen Inspired’s welcome for the store. A holder therefore needs to check the directory for their own regional card, rather than assume that every Salvation Army shop accepts every Scottish local card. [S03] [S04] [S06]
The programme’s consumer terms limit use to approved merchants and say that the acceptance list can change. They state a 12-month spending period after activation and a £1.99 purchase fee for digital cards. Those are published card conditions, not charges that SATCoL says it adds at the till. SATCoL describes the transaction as a standard gift-card payment. [S02] [S05]
The partners’ July figures of more than 30 regional cards, over 7,000 participating businesses and more than £18 million committed to the wider initiative describe the network surrounding the expansion. They do not measure sales at the 55 charity shops. SATCoL links the agreement to supporting communities and making purchases easier; Miconex presents it as extra choice for consumer gifts and corporate rewards. [S02]
The documented change is additional redemption access in charity retail. The announcements and directories reviewed disclose neither SATCoL gift-card transaction volumes nor incremental spending attributable to the partnership, so the commercial effect remains unmeasured. [S01] [S02] [S03] [S04]
