Sumo Restaurants adopted Diggecard's small-retailer gift card solution to increase sales without adding substantial work for its employees, according to a case study published in September 2021. The Norwegian restaurant operator wanted a programme that was straightforward to manage while matching its quality and design requirements.

Diggecard said the service was integrated into Sumo's existing website within a few hours, allowing sales to begin with bespoke card designs. Customers could select a gift card amount and add a video, photograph or personal greeting. The service also offered scheduled delivery by SMS or email.

Sumo reported a noticeable increase in gift card sales and positive customer feedback after introducing the solution. The case study did not quantify the increase. The restaurant team associated gift cards with customer acquisition and loyalty, which were among its reasons for expanding the programme.

At the time described, Sumo operated nine Asian-fusion restaurants in Norwegian locations including Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Jessheim. Diggecard reported company net turnover of approximately NOK200 million; that figure described the restaurant business rather than revenue from the gift card programme.

The case connects a branded online purchase experience with the internal work of operating the reward. The personalisation and delivery options were customer-facing features, while the quick integration was intended to let Sumo sell more cards through its existing website.
