CPI Card Group and Member Access Processing announced a collaboration on March 1, 2022 to make CPI's Card@Once instant issuance service available to MAP's credit union customers. The service allows members to obtain a new or replacement payment card during a branch visit, with CPI describing issuance in minutes.

Card@Once uses a software-as-a-service model. CPI manages IT setup, maintenance and round-the-clock support, removing the need for a credit union to maintain the service's software and servers on its own premises. Branch staff access the issuance system through a web interface.

The arrangement also supports dual-interface cards, allowing participating credit unions to issue cards capable of contactless payments. MAP linked the service to the ability to accommodate members who need a card quickly, including those replacing an existing card.

MAP's role in the collaboration is to bring the service to institutions using its card processing offering. CPI supplies the instant issuance technology. The announcement identifies MAP as an aggregator of Visa Debit Processing Service for credit unions, with debit, credit, ATM, mobile, reloadable prepaid and gift card services in its wider portfolio.

CPI said its wider business covered physical and digital payment cards, personalization and prepaid products. It described a US production network with facilities registered as PCI-compliant by one or more of Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Lane Dubin, CPI's executive responsible for prepaid, personalization and instant issuance, said the collaboration extended Card@Once's reach to MAP clients.
