Preferred Patron has compared three ways to deploy a loyalty program: a standalone platform, an API connection to existing software and a setup integrated directly with the point of sale. Its May 26, 2026 guide explains the different operational requirements each approach addresses.

The company describes a standalone platform as an option for businesses seeking points, rewards, gift cards and automated messaging without making a development project or POS replacement part of the initial launch. That approach keeps the deployment relatively simple where the existing workflow can support it.

For teams that need a custom customer experience, Preferred Patron offers a REST API using JSON and standard HTTP methods. The guide says it supports loyalty marketing, rewards, redemptions and gift card processing within websites, e-commerce systems, mobile applications and suitable point-of-sale workflows.

Direct POS integration addresses a different priority: carrying out loyalty actions during checkout. The company describes this as useful where earning or redeeming rewards needs to happen at the register with fewer separate steps for staff and customers.

Preferred Patron recommends starting with the business workflow and the development resources available. A custom application or deeper exchange of customer data may justify API work; a business primarily concerned with checkout speed may prioritize a supported POS connection. The guide also points out that the easiest initial launch may not be sufficient for more complex transaction requirements later.

The company says it supports all three approaches, allowing customers to choose according to their operation. The publication is an explanation of its integration options, rather than an announcement of a new POS partner or a newly launched API.
