KDDI announced prepaid Ponta Pass gift cards for Lawson stores on 29 September 2026, with sales scheduled to start on 6 October. The cards provide a fixed subscription period after the buyer registers a gift code with an au ID, without registering credit-card details. [1]
Six-month and annual cards have different pricing
The six-month card costs ¥3,288 and the 12-month card ¥5,480. KDDI labels both gift-card prices non-taxable. Its stated normal monthly subscription charge is ¥548 including tax: six monthly payments also total ¥3,288, while 12 total ¥6,576. The annual prepaid card therefore saves ¥1,096 against 12 ordinary monthly payments, equivalent to two monthly charges. These are subscription purchase prices, not a cash balance that can be spent at Lawson. [1] [2]

Ponta Pass includes points benefits at eligible merchants, recurring Lawson coupons and cinema discounts. The product page says prepaid membership does not renew automatically and ends when the purchased period expires; users cannot leave part-way through that period for a prorated refund. [1] [2]
The card is for an eligible au ID without an active Ponta Pass period. Existing subscribers, holders of an unexpired gift-card period and customers whose qualifying mobile plan already includes Ponta Pass cannot register another code. Cancellation of a monthly plan does not make its remaining service period disappear. Only one card code can be registered to an au ID at a time; a subsequent card can be registered after the first period ends. [2]
Buyers are instructed to check eligibility using the card’s QR code and pay cash at the Lawson register. Lawson Store 100, L Mini Mart and some other locations are excluded. Code registration is through the website, not the Ponta Pass app, and must be completed within 180 days of purchase. The terms prohibit resale and cash conversion, and exclude returns, exchanges or refunds after purchase. The product page describes its information as current to September 2026; the announcement does not report card sales or subscriber conversion. [1] [2]
