Payactiv plans to add Blackhawk Network digital gift cards and promotions to its app in November 2026, creating a route for eligible workers to buy merchant balances with wages they have already earned. The companies announced the partnership on October 20; the statement describes a forthcoming service rather than a completed rollout. [S1] [S2]
The gift-card selection will sit inside Payactiv Marketplace. Users will be able to browse offers and pay with their available earned wages, bringing gift-card distribution into an app they already use to access and manage pay. Payactiv says participating brands will offer opportunities to spend less, but neither company publishes a discount schedule or a complete merchant list in the announcement. [S1]
The funding mechanism matters. Payactiv’s current employee documentation says earned wage access is available through participating employers and programs, covers only part of pay already earned, and is reconciled through the next paycheck. Available amounts depend on payroll and workforce information and program settings. Buying a gift card with that balance uses the worker’s earnings; the announcement does not establish an additional employer-funded reward. [S3] [S4]
For Blackhawk Network, or BHN, the agreement adds a distribution channel for its branded-payment products. The companies present the marketplace as a way for merchants to reach workers when they decide where to spend. Their claims about savings, retention and loyalty are the rationale for the deal, with no measured results from this integration supplied. [S1]
BHN’s own holiday research provides context for the budgeting pitch. In its July 2026 US survey, 93% of respondents setting a holiday budget intended to buy gift cards, compared with 78% of those not setting a budget. These are intentions among holiday shoppers surveyed before the partnership announcement, rather than evidence of demand from Payactiv users. [S5] [S6]
