Runa highlighted environmentally focused reward options in its network for Earth Day on April 22, 2024. The update described ways recipients could direct rewards towards environmental projects or choose merchants grouped around that theme.
One partner was Dots Eco, which converts reward value into funding for activities such as tree planting, land protection and ecosystem clean-up. Runa cited Dots Eco's reported totals of 719,883 trees planted, 659,039 pounds of ocean-bound plastic cleared and 270,830 square feet of land purchased for nature reserves.
The same update attributed further figures to Dots Eco: 606,363 sea turtles saved, 6,832,791 acres of wildlife habitat protected and 12,365,000 square metres of marine area protected. These were the partner totals presented in the announcement, not outcomes attributed solely to transactions sent through Runa.
Runa also described Carma, which supports environmental and social causes and works with The Green Taskforce to involve veterans and service leavers in UK tree planting. Ecoswap groups environmentally focused merchants within a gift card option.
Furthr was presented as a way to direct rewards towards sustainable forestry projects, while Evertreen offered a tree-planting option. Runa also pointed to its foreign-exchange functionality for sending payouts to international recipients.
The Earth Day update positioned these partners as choices alongside conventional retail rewards. The practical change for a programme is the range of redemption destinations it can offer, allowing recipients to direct the value towards a cause or merchant relevant to them.
