DAVIDsTEA and Buyatab announced a digital gift card partnership on September 24, 2018. Buyatab would power the tea retailer's online gift card program, connecting website purchases with redemption online or at physical stores.
Customers in the United States and Canada could buy through DAVIDsTEA's website, choose among card designs and schedule delivery. The program extended gift purchasing across desktop and mobile devices.
DAVIDsTEA ecommerce director Yamine Gluchow said digital gift cards had been part of the retailer's product plans and would let recipients choose their own purchases. Buyatab chief executive Matias Marquez described the arrangement as an extension of the brand's online gifting experience.
At the announcement, DAVIDsTEA described 240 stores in Canada and the United States and more than 130 proprietary loose-leaf teas, alongside related products. Those store and product figures belong to the September 2018 release.
Buyatab supplied online gift card infrastructure for merchants and described mobile-wallet compatibility within its wider platform. The announcement specified the new DAVIDsTEA purchase and redemption channels without reporting subsequent sales or engagement results.
