Diggecard has detailed the National Trust's gift card program, launched in 2015 after a period of planning and internal workshops. The February 24, 2021 case study reports sales growth of 96% in 2019/20 compared with the previous year.
Before launch, the work included assigning ownership of the program and determining how gift cards could operate across different activities. The scope covered cafés, subscriptions, holiday cottages and merchandise sold in stores and online, alongside the National Trust's membership model.
The resulting program included physical and digital cards, consumer purchases through the National Trust website, in-store sales and corporate distribution. Diggecard handled B2B sales and delivery, consumer fulfillment and dedicated customer-service support.
Gift card malls provided another channel. The source says the initial arrangement involved Sainsbury's and later expanded to additional partners. Diggecard's business and agency network placed the cards into reward, benefit and promotional programs.
The National Trust also used its own gift cards in membership-acquisition activity. A related campaign used the cards to support subscription acquisition for The Times, creating another purchase occasion for the product.
The provider attributes the program's development to coordinated consumer promotion, corporate sales and regular planning and reporting. Its case study shows how one gift card product can serve the conservation charity's retail, membership and external incentive channels.
