Stored Value Solutions completed its acquisition of Buyatab, the Vancouver-based online gift card technology company, in an announcement dated February 19, 2019. The transaction brought merchant gift card ecommerce and digital distribution services into the SVS prepaid business.

Buyatab enabled retailers to sell gift cards online to consumers and business buyers. It also distributed merchant cards into incentive and loyalty programs, providing additional purchasing channels beyond a retailer's own website.

SVS president Mark Schatz said digital gift card sales had more than doubled over the preceding three years and linked the acquisition to retailers' online gifting needs. That growth statement was attributed to Schatz in the 2019 announcement.

Buyatab president Matias Marquez described opportunities to combine its commerce and delivery capabilities with SVS processing and data resources. Buyatab's service supported purchases through merchant websites and delivery to recipients by email or text message.

At the time, SVS reported managing more than 700 million card products and processing over 1.5 billion transactions annually. It was headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky and owned by FLEETCOR Technologies. Those company figures and ownership details describe the February 2019 announcement.

Blake, Cassels & Graydon advised SVS. Portico Capital Securities served as Buyatab's exclusive financial adviser and Lawson Lundell as its legal adviser. Buyatab's merchant clients operated in the United States, Canada and Europe across retail, hospitality, restaurants and other sectors.
