Xbox, Barclays and Mastercard announced Xbox’s first co-branded credit card in the United States on September 11, 2023, issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank. The no-annual-fee Xbox Mastercard offered five points per dollar on qualifying Microsoft Store purchases, three on eligible dining delivery and streaming services, and an introductory Game Pass Ultimate benefit subject to eligibility.

The initial rollout was scheduled for September 21, 2023 to qualified Xbox Insiders across all 50 states, with general US availability planned for 2024. At launch, the three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offer followed a first purchase within 180 days and applied to new Game Pass members or could be gifted to a friend. Cardmembers could choose among five Xbox-inspired designs and add their gamertag to the card. Other listed benefits included FICO Credit Score access, Priceless.com experiences and applicable Mastercard identity-theft, liability and emergency-assistance services.

Dave McCarthy, corporate vice president, Xbox Player Services, stated that the company has heard feedback from the Xbox community that they want more ways to get value for their purchases. He expressed excitement about partnering with Barclays and Mastercard to expand the ways Xbox players can earn rewards for gaming. Denny Nealon, CEO, Barclays US Consumer Bank, also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that Xbox is a great brand and they look forward to building upon their partner-first model to deliver a credit card product that sets the standard for gaming enthusiasts everywhere.

The release of the Xbox Mastercard marks a new milestone in the longstanding partnership between Mastercard and Microsoft, which is rooted in innovating safe, secure and seamless commerce experiences leveraging digital technologies. Sherri Haymond, executive vice president, Global Digital Partnerships, Mastercard, stated that Mastercard has a long history in innovating across esports and mobile and online gaming, which has given them unique insight on what gamers want most. She expressed thrill about collaborating with Xbox and Barclays to bring together an exciting, digital-first product.
